Liberty’s Tudor revival store, built in the 1920s from historic naval timbers, is one of the West End’s most distinctive landmarks. Since 2005, we have acted as lead architects and heritage consultants, preparing a Conservation Plan and guiding sensitive repair works. Our ongoing role supports Liberty in balancing day-to-day operations with long-term care, ensuring the Grade II* listed building remains safe, serviceable and true to its character.

We began by producing a Conservation Plan that combined historical research, condition surveys, and strategic recommendations, providing a clear framework for Liberty’s management team, design partners, and planning authorities. In parallel, we prepared sketch proposals to guide reconditioning and future works. Since then, we have continued as conservation architects and heritage consultants — carrying out surveys, preparing schedules of repair and overseeing works to the external elevations and fire doors, ensuring repairs are undertaken with suitable methods and materials.

Nearly two decades on, the Conservation Plan continues to guide the building’s care and development. It remains a practical reference point for everyday maintenance and longer-term planning. The programme of repair works has addressed areas of vulnerability and ensured the building remains safe, serviceable and compliant, while respecting its historic fabric. Our continued involvement reflects a consistent approach to stewardship, supporting Liberty in managing one of London’s most distinctive retail settings.
